Over the past few years, I’ve noticed a steadily increasing number of mini stroker toys, or penetrables, for transmasculine and nonbinary people. Options were previously limited to sex toys like the Buck Off FTM stroker, which is made from a porous material called TPE.[1]Sometimes called Thermoplastic Elastomer. There are also a few similar models made from TPR, or Thermoplastic Rubber. Even though materials such as TPE and TPR are technically non-toxic, they’re not body safe. I’m happy to see that platinum silicone mini strokers are starting to become more widely available, from both fantasy and non-fantasy toy manufacturers.
Although the term “FTM stroker” is often used to describe toys like these,[2]I’ve also seen them called FTM sleeves or masturbators. they’re not limited to only trans men in use. In fact, mini penetrables can also be a pleasurable and uniquely affirming experience for AFAB nonbinary and genderqueer individuals.

Types of Mini Penetrables
Mini penetrable designs can be broken down into two categories: some of them are open ended, while others have a closed back. Open ended penetrables have a channel that goes through the full length of the toy. In contrast, closed back toys have a closed end.
Both types work by creating suction around the user’s clit/dick,[3]I know that this is not the terminology that everyone uses – feel free to substitute this with whatever language feels best. providing a more intense sensation than I’ve ever gotten from air pulse/suction type vibrators.[4]To be fair, the only air pulse toy I’ve tried so far was a shitty battery-operated Satisfyer. 0/10, would not recommend. Adding a little water-based lube can also help in creating and maintaining suction!
Since individual anatomies and preferences vary, I can’t recommend one style of penetrable over the other. Both styles have their own pros and cons, which I’ve listed below.
Open Ended
✔️ option to insert a bullet vibe on one end for more sensation
✔️ easier to clean
✔️ suction levels are adjustable
❌ might not work as well for smaller anatomies
❌ often have a steeper learning curve
❌ can be difficult to create suction
Closed Back
✔️ typically have more intense suction
✔️ can be more ergonomic to use
✔️ more likely to work for smaller anatomies
❌ suction can be overwhelmingly intense for some
❌ can be hard to clean
❌ users with large bottom growth might “bottom out” in shorter models
While it can take some trial and error to find the right penetrable, there are a growing number of options available! Additionally, some people find it helpful to use a pump beforehand.
